Hello All!
At Brightworks Energy, we are constantly getting asked what people should be looking for when it comes to a quality portable power charger. With so many options, features, sizes and price points available on the market, we decided to compile a list of key components you should look at when shopping for a great Portable Power Charger.
There are many factors to consider when choosing the best portable power solutions for your needs:
- SIZE DOES MATTER, AS DOES YOUR NEEDS
The first to consider is the actual physical size of the unit based on your needs. - If you are doing some backpacking through a trail and have limited ability to carry supplies, a Universal AC Portable Power Supply may be your best option in this scenario. It’s lightweight and mobile, enabling you to pack other essential items.
- If you are on a more extended outing a 125,000 mAh Portable AC Solution may be the best option for you as the added storage can keep your devices connected for longer.
- If you are looking for something more pocket sized for everyday life (ie: school, commuting, driving to the cottage with kids, etc), then there are many options available like the 20,000 mAh solar charger which is compact and very lightweight.
- STORAGE CAPACITY: POWER BLACK OUT VS ON THE GO CHARGING
The last point leads to the next thing to consider, the storage size. You can buy devices that can store as little as 1000mAhs all the way to 125,000mAh and beyond, so you need to consider what it is you want to charge. If you just want to make sure your cell phone is juiced then an 8000mAh portable solar charger would be a wise choice. If you are looking to power multiple devices during a black out, then you need to consider going up in size.
- THE STRENGTH OF THE POWER OUTPUT - USB OR AC OUTLETS
Power output is a big factor in determining what Portable Power Charger would be right for you. Smaller ones, like the 8000mAh solar charger have limited output at 5V/2A while the 125,000mAh Portable AC outlet has USB ports at 5V and up to 2.4A but also has dual 110V/230V AC Outlets that can cover up to 800 watts. Deciding if you need a device with only USB output or AC outlets can be a major factor when determining what makes the best Portable Power Charger for you.
- THE STRENGTH OF THE POWER INPUT - HOW EASILY DOES IT RECHARGE?
Output is not the only consideration as you have to factor in Input as well. How do you recharge your device? The 8000mAh portable AC charger has an attached 1.2W solar panel so it can charge anywhere there is daylight. If your charger does not have a built-in inverter you need to be sure you can have access to a dedicated AC outlet to make sure you can always stay charged. Alternatively, we offer many Portable Power Solutions that can be combined with a Portable Solar Charger to make sure you can recharge while out and about. Keep in mind this does typically take longer. For the larger items, I would suggest an 80watt Solar panel charger to give you the best recharge time possible when camping or hiking.
